'86 GSB Scholarship History and Mission
The '86 GSB Endowment Scholarship was founded by two 1986 Boylan graduates who, upon completion of their graduate studies at The University of Chicago Graduate School of Business, entered the financial services industry in New York City. They remained friends over the last 20 years and often reflected upon their time at Boylan. They agreed it was an experience that provided a solid foundation that shaped many events and opportunities that followed in their lives. Acknowledging how fortunate they were to be afforded an education at Boylan, they endeavored to find a way to give something back. The two '86 grads founded the '86 GSB Endowment Scholarship with these three simple words: “giving something back”.
The mission of the '86 GSB Scholarship is to identify deserving students who display leadership qualities, both in and out of the classroom, who might not otherwise be able to attend Boylan. The selection process will be based upon need, desire, and aptitude, which are the primary qualifications for this full four-year scholarship. The recipients of the award will be expected to perform at a high level of academic achievement and to be positive contributors to the Boylan community. The hope is that each '86 GSB Scholarship recipient will serve as a mentor and tutor for future recipients, thereby creating a legacy of excellence.
The GSB recipient will be expected to perform as an exemplar of Boylan Catholic’s mission, that is, to model the values of a wholly educated person. Spiritually, the recipient must demonstrate the Christian values of a participant in the faith, particularly those related to worship, charity, and social justice. Academically, the recipient must maintain a 3.25 grade average per semester and carry less than twelve (12) demerits per school year. Physically, the recipient must be involved in one extracurricular activity, excluding athletics, which has service at its core.
A thorough and consistent review of the GSB recipient’s academic, extracurricular, and discipline record will take place each academic year in order to determine GSB Scholarship eligibility for the following year. School administrators and GSB Scholarship benefactors will conduct this review.
