Welcome back to the start of the second semester. We hope that you enjoyed your break. On Tuesday, January 5 we begin remote learning and would like to review some reminders with our families.
Skyward grade book viewing will remain closed this week while first semester grades are verified. We will notify parents when viewing is reopened.
Remote learning will resume on January 5. All students will be expected to check into Canvas and begin their second semester classes on this date. Remote learning will run from January 5 - 15.
During this time, please continue to stay in contact with the Attendance Office about illnesses or absences. If your child cannot complete their work during remote learning, call the attendance office at 1-815-877-2513. We will notify teachers of a student’s absence if it has been reported to the attendance office.
The school offices will be open during remote learning from 8:00 am - 3:05 pm each day.
We will resume our alternating cohorts on January 19 (see schedule). The landscape of this pandemic is beginning to change so if we can find an opportunity to have all of our students safely return during the second semester we will work with the health department to develop a plan.
Let's use this adaptive pause to continue to practice safe behaviors and bring the COVID positive case numbers down in this region: wear masks, maintain social distancing, and frequently wash your hands. Together our actions can make a difference for our entire community.
- Boylan is allowing casual dress for students, faculty, and staff for 1st Quarter through 3rd Quarter. There will be no locker room use for changing during the school day. Students can wear the school uniform, if preferred. Click here for additional information.
- Beginning in the 2020-2021 school year, student identification cards must be worn on school-issued lanyards.
CHRISTIAN SERVICE REQUIREMENT UPDATE
In light of the recent adjustments to our school schedule and increased cautions from the health department, we have made further adjustments to our Christian Service Requirement for this school year. All students will still be required to complete 15 hours of service this year. The newest adjustment for the 2020-21 school year is we will accept at home service. This includes but is not limited to yard work, volunteering at a parent's place of work, caring for younger siblings, etc. You may not receive any form of payment for service completed. If you have questions please contact Ms. Shannon McKenna.
Additional announcements can be found below.
The only way we will be able to return to in-person learning in a sustainable way is by reducing the spread of COVID-19. This means following the current COVID-19 recommendations for Winnebago County, including:
- Wearing a mask in public, at gatherings, workplaces, or where it is difficult to maintain physical distance
- Maintaining a physical distance of six feet or more between people not residing in a single household.
- Minimizing time spent with anyone outside your immediate household
- Washing hands frequently
- Avoiding gatherings of 10 or more people or any gathering for which you cannot maintain physical distance
- Limiting travel
- Staying home if you are sick and seeking appropriate medical care
Please be mindful of the travel guidelines issued by the Winnebago County Health Department, which is requiring a 14-day self-quarantine after visiting or hosting guests from several states and countries. Check the WCHD website regularly, as the list of locations changes weekly.
School photos have arrived and are available for pickup. Photos can be picked up at the student entrance (DOOR D) Monday - Friday between 8:00am - 3:00pm. The makeup or retake date for school photos will be on February 1 and 2.

Parents are encouraged to enroll as an observer in Canvas, our online learning management system. Observers in Canvas will have access to view the online assignments and resources of their student's classes. While observers will have the ability to view grades for some work, please remember that the grades that appear in Canvas will not fully represent a student's overall grade, as students may be assessed on work completed outside of Canvas. Parents should continue to refer to Skyward for official grades. Directions for setting up your observer account on Canvas can be found on the Documents and Forms section of our website.
Daily mass is available for faculty and students on a first come first serve basis at 7:15 am. Social distancing and masks are required and sanitation of the chapel happens after Masses. Students will be required to sign in when entering the chapel. If a student arrives for Mass and it is already full, they will be asked to go to the cafeteria with the rest of the early arrival students.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and delays at the Herff Jones plant, the 2019-2020 school yearbook will not be available until late January 2021. Once the books arrive we will notify families so that they can be distributed to individuals that placed an order. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Please note that our ability to hold all events and activities remain dependent on guidelines provided by local and state governing bodies. The COVID-19 pandemic is a fluid situation and our plans may change. We appreciate your flexibility and understanding.
