Art Department:

The Art Department exists to stimulate and guide students in their total self development and growth. The vehicle we use is art, and our aim is to help students acquire and use both knowledge and skills toward the ultimate goal of personal growth.

The high school art program strives for excellence through a highly structured learning process. We recognize art as a discipline that educates the whole person. In this discipline, perceptions are used thoroughly to provide an awareness of deep contact with reality.

2012-2013 Courses:

ART 1 911 (Academic)

The Art 1 course is open to all students with an interest in art and does not require any previous art experience. This introductory yearlong course provides students with the fundamental skills and foundation necessary for more advanced studio work. Students explore a variety of media while gaining essential skills in drawing, composition, color theory, as well as developing the language and practice of art making. In addition to daily studio work, students can expect homework, sketchbook assignments, projects, quizzes and tests. This course is the prerequisite for all other studio art classes. A lab fee supplies most materials for the year. Matting of artwork is an additional expense.
