Boylan Catholic High School Holds National Honor Society Induction

Boylan Catholic High School held its fall National Honor Society induction of new members on October 30. Sixteen seniors were selected for membership by the faculty who based their evaluations on the candidates’ scholarship, service, leadership, and character.

The newly inducted students include: Eva Bloom, Adam Budd, Samantha Cyborski, Anne Cyrs, Natalie Deutsch, Amanda Didier, Morgan Fischer, Ana Hatfield, Maria Hilby, Bailey Peterson, Edie Ports, Kayla Kirnberger, Frida Romero, Ava Todora, Mary Valentine, Megan Wintrode.

In all, there are 59 members of the Class of 2018 in Boylan’s National Honor Society chapter. These 43 students were inducted into NHS last spring: Benjamin Ambrose, Jacob Appino, Brianna Arreguin, Leighton Barnes, Leah Boccignone, Hannah Breault, Quinn Calkins, Benjamin Close, Megan Crouch, Joseph Delia, Nathan Droessler, Alexandra Erdmier, Marissa Floryance, Fiona Fulling, Katherine Garlick, Jessica Hindenburg, Jacob Hollister, Lauren Honkamp, Kelsey Hughes, Elaina Johnson, Adam Johnson, Lily Johnston, William Kinczewski, Adrienne Kisting, Alexander Klein, Allyson Lamkin, Shelby Martin, Grace McLaughlin, Moira McMahon, Catherine O’Grady, Caroline Piper, Arianna Rabor, Jane Reesor, Catherine Reynolds, Sophia Sankaran, Sidney Stull, Ashlynne Terry, Matthew Thomas, Alexia Vant, Megan Vant, Anna White, Magdalena Woods, Anne Wubbena.

Among its many service projects, Boylan’s NHS Chapter hosts two blood drives annually, adopts a family in need for the Christmas season through St. Elizabeth’s Community Center, assists with the Alumni Phonathons and offers tutoring services to Boylan students.

Boylan Catholic to Host Internet Safety Speaker

Boylan Catholic High School will host two presentations by child crime expert Detective Richard Wistocki entitled “Keeping Our Kids Safe on Their Devices” on Monday November 6.

The student presentation “Defining Internet Crimes And Strategies To Protect Kids From These Crimes” will take place at 1:30 in the Main Gym.

A parent presentation covering the topics of tech talks, parenting strategies, cyber-bullying, internet predators, cell phone apps, “sex-tortion”, sexting and monitoring devices will take place at 7:00 p.m. in the Auditorium.

This event is free of charge and sponsored by Boylan’s Natural Helpers Program.

Standardized Testing Information for Wed. Oct. 11, 2017

On Wednesday, October 11, students are to be in their assigned homerooms for testing by 7:55am. Following the completion of their tests, students will be dismissed as a class. Dismissal for freshmen and sophomores will be approximately 10:45am. Dismissal for juniors will be approximately 11:45pm. Due to the length of testing for juniors, they are encouraged to bring a water bottle and a healthy snack. Boylan or college t-shirts/sweatshirts with appropriate jeans/khakis/sweatpants and tennis shoes may be worn. Since no excused absences will be authorized on that day, we thank you in advance for your cooperation in this matter.

Boylan Catholic High School to Host Notre Dame Club Speaker

FrRonNuzziBoylan Catholic High School, in cooperation with the Notre Dame Club of Rockford, invites community members from across the Stateline area to a presentation entitled “Only the Strong Can Be Gentle: Toward Spirituality for Leadership”, by nationally known speaker and author, Rev. Ronald J. Nuzzi, Ph.D., a senior director the Alliance for Catholic Education (ACE) at the University of Notre Dame. The presentation will be held in Boylan’s Auditorium 4000 St. Francis Drive, on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at 7:00 p.m.

Father Nuzzi will speak on a Catholic approach to leadership based on the Catholic tradition, including the Scriptures, the life of Jesus, and the example of the saints. Recognizing that in world of politics and business there are certain expectations for leadership, Father Nuzzi will discuss how those with authority over others can bless their life situations by developing a spirituality that is oriented to leadership

A priest of the Diocese of Youngstown, Ohio, he holds a Ph.D. in educational leadership and graduate degrees in theology, philosophy, and educational administration. He has conducted two research tours at the Vatican’s Congregation for Catholic Education and did research on seminaries for the U.S. Catholic Conference of Bishops (USCCB). He has authored and edited numerous books on Catholic education and has completed several national studies focused on pastors, principals, and the use of buildings that once housed Catholic schools

In January 2004, Fr. Nuzzi was among a select group of educational leaders to be invited to the White House for a special celebration of Catholic education with President Bush. In April 2004, he opened a session of Congress, saying the opening prayer in the U.S. House of Representatives before meeting with a variety of House and Senate committees on educational policy. He has received the C. Albert Koob, OPraem, Merit Award from the National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA) for extraordinary contributions to Catholic education in the United States as well as the Ohio College Admissions Officers’ Association Award, and the Catholic Press Award.

Admission is free and doors will open at 6:30 p.m. with the presentation beginning at 7:00 p.m.
