Boylan Catholic High School has been awarded the 2004 Energy Efficient Lighting Grant in the amount of $34,634.40. The grant is sponsored by the Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation. The grant helps cover the cost of retrofitting lighting in a number of key areas of the school’s physical plant. Energy efficient lighting has been installed in the wrestling room, the main gym, lecture hall and portions of the tennis courts, auxiliary gym, and pool complex. The upgrade provides higher quality illumination and lower utility costs.

An application for the 2005 Energy Efficient Lighting Grant is in process. If received, target areas include additional work in the pool and tennis facilities and the auditorium.

Jesus said “I come not to be served, but to serve” and “Whatever you do for the least of my brethren, you do for me.” With this in mind, we begin thinking about our 39th Annual Chocolate Drive. One of our school goals this year is to spend some time with our students and share with them the concept and the characteristics of “service.”

EVERY STUDENT is asked and expected to sell their quota of 40 items of chocolate – an amount totaling $80.00. For their participation, students are rewarded with a free day. All students who sell 60 items of candy, for a total of $120.00, are eligible to win tuition grants, electronics, or cash prizes.

The chocolate will be distributed to the students on Friday, October 22nd. The cost of each bar is $2.00. The drive will end on Wednesday, November 17th.

Boylan Catholic High School’s annual Natural Helpers Luncheon/Style Show

WHEN:
Sunday, November 7.
Social at 11:30 am.
Luncheon at 12pm.
Style show at 1pm.

WHERE:
Boylan’s Main Gym

WHO:
Students who are Natural Helpers will model clothing. Sue Mroz will emcee.
The public is invited.

WHY:
Proceeds will help fund two Natural Helper training sessions, speakers, and motivational materials for the 2004-05 school year. Training assists Natural Helpers in listening skills, making referrals, and helping others make their own choices.

WHAT:
Red Ribbon Drug Prevention Fun Fair

WHEN:
Saturday, October 16, from 11 am – 4 pm

WHERE:
Boylan Main Gym

WHY:
To celebrate living a drug-free life and to demonstrate that it can be fun.

Parent education is also a goal for the Fair.

Admission is free.

Pope John Paul II has proclaimed this year as the Year of the Eucharist. To honor the Eucharist, Boylan will have Adoration in the school chapel on the first Friday of each month. Parents or other interested adults are invited to participate in the adoration.

Adoration is scheduled from 8:00 AM until 1:30 PM on the first Fridays. Benediction will begin at 2:00 PM. If you wish to participate in the adoration, please e-mail us at first_friday@boylan.org and indicate the date(s) and time. If you prefer you may call the school and ask to speak with Mrs. Ludwig to give a date and time.
