Illinois State Scholars Announced

The Illinois Student Assistance commission (ISAC) has announced the names of this year’s students honored as Illinois State Scholars. The Illinois State Scholar Program recognizes Illinois high school students for outstanding academic achievement. The Commission is pleased to announce that 50 Boylan Catholic High School students have been named Illinois State Scholars.

Rankings are based on a combination of ACT and/or SAT 1 test score results and class rank at the end of the sixth semester in high school. While the program does not provide a monetary award, the designation as an Illinois State Scholar can be listed on applications for college admission and scholarships.

Incoming Freshman Placement Exam

All area eighth graders who intend to register for the 2007-08 school year at Boylan Catholic High School must take the Placement Exam. The Exam will be given on Saturday, January 6.

A $75 non-refundable registration fee is required on test day. Checks are to be made payable to Boylan High School. Students are asked to bring two #2 pencils.

Please drop students off at the student (south) entrance by 7:45am. Testing will end by noon.

The Placement Exam is used to help the school recommend appropriate challenge level courses. Parents will be able to attend test interpretations on either January 28 or January 30, 2007. Please call (815) 877-0531 for further information.

A Boylan Christmas Tradition-Assisting The Needy

For over 25 years, the Boylan Catholic High School Community has assisted the needy with food and gifts for the Holidays.

On Friday, December 15, between 12 and 1 pm, students will load a truck with food supplies, clothing, toys, and other items collected by students and faculty. Collection began in mid-November. Teams of students will collect the boxes Friday morning and bring them to the Main Entrance for loading.

Sixty families will receive these Christmas baskets which will be distributed by St. Elizabeth Center.

Boylan’s Student Council coordinated and led the drive. Advisor is Mrs. Virginia Burd, who will be on hand for further information.

"Sounds of the Season" broadcast

There will be FOUR broadcasts of this program:

  • December 23 at noon on WTVO Channel 17
  • December 24 at 5pm on WQRF FOX 39
  • December 25 at 5am on Rockford Insight Channel 16
  • December 25 at 8am on WTVO Channel 17
Office Depot Contributions To Boylan

On behalf of the Boylan technology department, we would like to thank the parents/businesses/patrons of Office Depot.  Because you have taken part in the 5% contribution to schools with every purchase you make you have increased significantly the technology budget at Boylan.  To date the school has received over $2300.00 in cash to spend at Office Depot for our Technology needs.  Please keep up the good work and thank you.

Music students honored

Six vocal and instrumental music students were selected at the recent District Illinois Music Educators Association (IMEA) competition to perform in the All State Chorus and All State Band festival to be held in January in Peoria.

The following students were selected for the Honors Chorus:

Emily Rasmann (soprano), Erica Figurin (alto), Chad Furgiuele (bass), and David Potts (tenor) and Erica Figurin (alto).

Sauman Rajabi (violin) was selected for the Honors Orchestra.
