Icemen Win State Championship

Congratulations to the Rockford Icemen who have won their 11th straight state hockey championship. Boylan students on the varsity team include: Dustin Brown, Ian Hardenbrook, Alex Short, Nick Short and Evan Walsh.

Junior Varsity members from Boylan include: Andrew Bergren, Kyle Desanti, Ethan Fish, Brandon Janczak, Matt Ronan, David Kraft, Joe Zaksheske, Austin Tobias, John Leib, and Jake Schneider.

Greg Klazura signs National Letter of Intent to Notre Dame

Greg Klazura recently signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the University of Notre Dame. Greg will be a member of the Notre Dame soccer team. For more information access the web address below:

Gerry Davies named Golden Apple Teacher

Gerry Davies, the chair of the mathematics department at Boylan, has been named as one of five Golden Apple teachers.

Mr. Davies has taught at Boylan for the last twenty years.  Gerry joins Mr. Don Terasaki who was previously named a Golden Apple teacher.

Rockford Art Museum Honors Boylan Students

Seven Boylan Catholic art students will be recognized on Sunday, March 11 at the opening of the Young Artists Show at the Rockford Art Museum, 711 N. Main St., at 2:00 p.m. The following awards will be presented:

Portfolio Scholarship – Cari Wayman;

Myrtle M. Irons Scholarship – Katie Hannan;

Best of Show – Jenna Bender;

Best of 2-D – Allison Kenny;

Juror’s Award – Ashley Colletti;

Honorable Mention – Katie Olejarski and Kaitlyn Stiles.

The exhibition, which runs from March 11 through April 8, features nearly 300 works by students from 19 area high schools.

Boylan Mock Trial Team Competes

Boylan Catholic’s Mock Trial team tied for third place in the 25th Annual Illinois State Bar Association High School Mock Trial Invitational on Saturday, March 3 at the University of Illinois at Springfield. Greg Klazura won an Outstanding Attorney award, and Outstanding Witness awards went to Zach Belford, Amanda Kamar, and Lauren Swadley.

The Mock Trial team is coached by attorneys James Zuba and Greg Tuite, Winnebago County State’s Attorney Paul Logli, and Boylan English teacher Carol Birchfield.

Boylan Students Honored

Boylan’s German students were among 24,000 students nationally who participated in the American Association of Teachers of German National Testing and Awards Program this year. German II student Alexis Onderak scored in the 91st percentile, and German III student Vanja Cosic scored in the 96th percentile for the second consecutive year.

The Executive Council of the AATG has been sponsoring this annual national exam for more than thirty years.
