Description:
Boylan is a comprehensive, co-educational diocesan high school in the Diocese of Rockford, IL whose bishop is the Most Reverend Thomas G. Doran, D.D., J.C.D. Boylan’s campus is situated on 60 acres in the northwest section of Rockford. The 50 year-old facility includes a chapel, library, Academic Support Center, guidance offices, auditorium, two gyms, a weight room and a wrestling room. The main building also has a computer-aided design (CAD) lab, two computer networking labs, a computer-equipped business education lab, foods and sewing rooms, and cafeteria. The Arts and Science Complex has eight science labs with a central preparation area, two art classrooms with kiln, a 175-seat lecture hall/auditorium, and a study hall. The Music Complex houses a band room with five practice rooms, a director’s office, and a chorus room. A 5400-seat stadium with a synthetic six-lane running track, two baseball diamonds, multi-use practice fields, six indoor tennis courts, and a Swim Complex/Advancement Office complete the campus.
Boylan shall admit students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school.

Boylan is operated as a not-for-profit institution by the Catholic Diocese of Rockford, IL. all revenue is used for the care of students, salaries of teachers and personnel, maintenance of buildings and grounds, and improvements.

Enrollment:
Enrollment for 2010-2011 is 1187. There are 298 seniors, 322 juniors, 275 sophomores and 292 freshmen. Eighty-eight percent of students are Catholic; twelve percent are of other faiths. Ethnic enrollment is 2.5% African American, 2% Asian, 84.5% Caucasian, and 11% Hispanic.

Accreditation:
The North Central Association of Secondary Schools and Colleges (AdvanceED) and the State Office of Education accredit Boylan. In 1987, 1991 and 1998, Boylan received the Blue Ribbon School Award from the US Department of Education, the highest award an American high school can achieve. It recognizes excellence in teaching, student achievement, leadership, and parental involvement in the nation’s most successful schools. Boylan is the only Northwestern Illinois school to receive the award. In 2005 and 2006, Boylan was named as one of the Top 50 Catholic High Schools in the United States.
